The Folio Society

Back in 2006 I blogged about tracking down a mint condition copy of my top ten favourite books. While some of those books have dropped out of the top ten to be replaced by brilliant new work, a book that still remains in the list is John Steinbeck's Travels With Charley. I'm a sucker for dog themed books and autobiographical travel books, and this one combines the two. It's taken me ages, but I've finally found the most amazing copy of his work. In fact, I never imagined a book so beautiful. Cloth bound, illustrated, a real collector's piece.
The Folio Society is a real find. Not every book is selected to be so stylishly bound and produced. It's an exclusive club.
As stated on their website, The Folio Society sets itself apart by using exquisite bindings, fine typography and the highest quality paper.
Every book is superbly illustrated with specially commissioned artwork, using expertly researched paintings and photogaphs.
In the case of this book, veteran illustrator John Holder was behind the beautiful artwork.
Although I bought this book second-hand, I think I'll be visiting the Folio Society for some further special editions very soon.
